Summary

The course offers develops an in-depth knowledge of the different theories relevant to studying the nexus of security, development and governance.  The course work will be structured around core theoretical concepts, as well as the different theory perspectives. Practical application is also demonstrated, by a close examination of a range of traditional and new security, development and governance issues. An important element of the course is developing the capacity of students to identify the theoretical knowledge needed to pursue their research projects, with the possibility of individual and group learning.

Assessment

  • Final Essay (60%). The Final Essay will consist of 2500 – 3000 word essay discussing 1 of the theoretical perspectives covered in the class. The draft Essay will be presented in class prior to submission. 
  • Group presentations and active class participation in seminars (40%).
