Graduation ceremonies

2017. José Ignacio TORREBLANCA

Location: Paranimf of the Universitat de Barcelona

The welcome speech was in charge of Dr. Oriol Escardíbul, Vice-Rector for Finance of the Universitat de Barcelona, who mentioned the past unexpected powershifts in the world and how they adress to the present changes. His discourse was followed by some warm words of IBEI's director Jacint Jordana.

Prof. José Ignacio Torreblanca, Editor-in-chief of EL PAÍS and Professor of Political Science at UNED, attended the Graduation Ceremony 2017 as a keynote speaker with the lecture "The New International Disorder", available in video here.

After this lecture, Pablo Astorga, co-coordinator of the Master's in International Development at IBEI, took part as a speaker to address the students, receiving an enthusiastic response by the future graduates as he congratulated and encouraged them to be selfconfident. The IBEI student Aaradhana Ramesh participated as well giving a speech in behalf of the rest of her classmates. You can access to her conference in video here.

Finally, the vice-rectors of the universities that issue the masters certificates (UPF, UAB and UB) awarded the certificates to all IBEI graduates.

The President of IBEI Narcís Serra also made a final speech as a way of closure.

At the very end there was a reception at the garden, accompanied with some beverages and appetizers, enlivered with live xylophone music and the company of professors, family and friends, who did not want to miss the special ocassion.

Our students took the initiative to organize and coordinate themselves to create a Yearbook, which they themselves distributed at the end of the act.

2016. Antonio MISSIROLI

Dr Antonio Missiroli, Director of the European Union Institute for Security Studies, attended the Graduation Ceremony 2016 as a keynote speaker with the lecture "The EU in a changing security environment".

After this lecture, Elisabeth Johansson-Nogués, Research Fellow at IBEI, took part as a speaker to address the students. The IBEI student Warren Quinton participated as well giving a speech

2015. Mary KALDOR

Venue: UAB - Casa Convalescència

Professor Mary Kaldor, Professor of Global Governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), attended the Graduation Ceremony 2015 as a keynote speaker with the lecture "Democracy in Europe".

Professor Martin Shaw, Research Professor at IBEI, attended the Graduation Ceremony 2013 as a keynote speaker with the lecture "Mutability and future global challenges". 2012. Verónica BENET-MARTÍNEZ

Prof. Verónica Benet-Martínez, ICREA researcher at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra took part in the Graduation Ceremony as a keynote speaker with the lecture “Multi-cultural experiences and identities: psychological dynamics and consequences”. 2011. Ramin JAHANBEGLOO

On 14 June 2011 the Graduation Ceremony of the Master in International Relations took place. Prof. Ramin Jahanbegloo from University of Toronto gave the graduation speech. 2010. Josep BORRELL

On 21 June 2010 the Graduation Ceremony of the Master in International Relations (academic years 2009-10 for full time students, and 2008-10 for part-time) took place. The event was crowned by the graduation lecture “La crisis del euro, cómo se ha producido y vías de salida”. delivered by Prof. Josep Borrell, the President of the European University Institute. The vice-rectors of the universities that issue the Master’s Certificate (UPF, UAB and UB) awarded the certificates to all IBEI graduates.

2009. Jordi HEREU

The Mayor of Barcelona took part in the opening ceremony of the 6th Master's degree at the beginning of November 2009. During the event, degree certificates were awarded to students from the previous academic year. The mayor welcomed this year's students, who come from more than 25 different countries, and introduced Barcelona as a Mediterranean capital and center for local diplomacy. The vice-rectors of the universities that grant the Master's degree (UPF, UB and UAB) awarded the degrees to students who enrolled in 2009 and finished the postgraduate course last September.

2008. Carme CHACON

On 30 January 2008, the ceremony for conferring IBEI Master's degrees in International Relations took place (2006-2007 / 2007-2008 graduates). During the event, the Minister of Defence, Carme Chacón, gave the graduation speech "The Global Strategic Context: Risks, Threats and Security Policy". The rector of Barcelona University, Dídac Ramírez, together with the vice-rector of Postgraduate, Doctorate and International Relations at UPF, María Morrás, and the vice-rector of Academic Staff at UAB, Carles Jaime, joined the Minister to award the degree certificates.

2007. Shirin EBADI

On 18 January 2008, the ceremony for conferring IBEI Master's degrees in International Relations took place. The event was attended by the 2003 Nobel Peace Laureate, jurist and human rights activist, Dr Shirin Ebadi, who gave the farewell address to Master's students. The vice-rectors of the universities that grant the Master's degree (UAB, UB, UPF) and the Catalan Government's Secretary for Foreign Affairs awarded the degrees to students of all years (2004, 2005 and 2006).
