Master's in International Relations

Entry requirements

Academic background

Applicants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree or its international equivalent of at least six semesters, preferably in the field of social sciences (political science, international relations, economics, sociology), with good results at an accredited institution of higher education in Spain or abroad. If you are applying with a degree from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), a minimum of 180 ECTS is required.

Please refer to this list to find the minimum grade requirement for any of our master’s programmes. If the country where you pursued your undergraduate degree is not on the list, please contact the Admissions Office (admissions@ibei.org) for more information.

If you are applying before having completed your undergraduate degree, you will need to provide us with an official document issued by your university stating that you will be graduating before mid-September 2024.

Language requirements:

◾️  If you are applying for the English-only track

You are required to provide evidence of your English language skills. IBEI accepts the following language certificates:

  • TOEFL: 90 iBT (IBEI code: 6567)
  • IELTS: 6.5 
  • Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced CAE or C2 Proficiency CPE.

The TOEFL and IELTS results are valid for two years, whereas any of the Cambridge English exams should have been taken within five years of the application deadline.

A certificate is not required if you are a native English speaker or you studied your complete undergraduate degree in English. 

Please note that you must submit the curriculum vitae and the motivation letter in English.

  If you are applying for the bilingual or part-time track of the Master’s in International Relations

You will have to demonstrate both your proficiency in English and Spanish, since classes are taught in both languages.

English

You are required to provide evidence of your English language skills. IBEI accepts the following language certificates:

  • TOEFL: 80 iBT (IBEI code: 6567)
  • Academic IELTS: 6.0
  • Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 FCE (173-179 score), C1 Advanced CAE or C2 Proficiency CPE

TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years, whereas any of the Cambridge English exams should have been taken within five years of the application deadline.

A certificate is not required if you are a native English speaker or you completed your undergraduate degree in English. 

Spanish

Non-native speakers of Spanish have to submit the Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language Certificate (DELE o SIELE), Level B2 (http://diplomas.cervantes.es).

Applicants will be exempt from this requirement in the following cases:

  • If you are native a Spanish speaker; OR
  • You have completed your undergraduate degree in Spanish.

Please note that in case you are applying for the Master's in International Relations bilingual or part-time track, the curriculum vitae and the motivation letter may be submitted in either English or Spanish.
