Empadronamiento / Padró (Certificate of Census Registration)

WHAT?

The Certificate of Census Registration in Spain is called the "empadronamiento" or "padró". This document is the official register of people who live in Spain, containing their corresponding address, and every resident of a municipal area, whether Spanish or foreigner, must be registered in it.

Please check Barcelona International Welcome Desk website to learn more about it. This is done free of charge.

WHERE?

This can be done at your nearest office through appointment. Book an appointment here.

HOW?

The documentation required for your Census Registration should be in Spanish or Catalan, and is the following:

  1. Passport or ID Card
  2. Proof of residence at the address you wish to be registered at. This can be any of the following:
    • A signed document from the landlord, or the person renting the apartment confirming that you are living in the house, along with a copy of their ID or Passport.
    • Your rental contract, signed within the past 12 months and having a duration of at least 6 months from the day of your application.

The Admissions Office will provide more information and instructions on how to complete this procedure in September, once students arrive at IBEI.
