The specific research under this call will focus on the analysis of interactions between exposures to economic and natural risks and social policy choices at national and sub-national level in sub-Saharan Africa.

We are seeking candidates at post-graduate / pre-doctoral level, preferably with strong quantitative training in political science, economics, geography, or related disciplines. The responsibilities of the candidate will include cleaning and coding (where necessary) of household survey and cross-country data, acquiring and merging-in control variables, support to statistical and econometric analysis, as well as background research like literature reviews and minor administrative tasks. The candidate will also be involved in matching and analyzing geocoded survey records with geo-coded controls and event data, using existing GIS shape and raster files. The project emphasizes capacity-building and the candidate will be invited to co-author papers for conference presentations and journal submissions to support her future career development.

The work commitment is flexible, between 10-20 hour/week for 6 months, with possibility of extension by up to one year upon satisfactory performance. The start date is negotiable but should be no later than January 2024. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system (pro rata).
