New IBEI Research Fellows

We are pleased to announce the incorporation of new research fellows: Charles Roger, Diego Badell, Alba Huidobro, Fernando Hortal and Adrià Rivera. Martijn Vlaskamp also joins IBEI as a Beatriu de Pinós Research Fellow.

Charles Roger

Assistant Professor

Charles Roger is Assistant Professor at IBEI. Previously, he was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia. He holds a PhD degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and a MA in Global Politics from the London School of Economics. His research interests are the theories of International Relations, International Political Economy and Comparative Politics to explain the rise and dynamics of informal and transnational institutions.

Diego Badell

Pre-doctoral Fellow FPI, MINECO

Diego Badell is a PhD candidate in the program Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, under the supervision of Prof. Esther Barbé. He obtained a predoctoral contract from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (FPI), linked to the project EUNORMCON. He holds a Bachelor in Political Science and Public Management from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (class of 2014), and received a master’s degree in International Security from IBEI (class of 2015)

Alba Huidobro is a PhD candidate in the program Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, under the supervision of the Dr. Aina Gallego. She obtanied a predoctoral contract from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiviness (FPI), linked to the project LEADERS. She holds a MA in Research in Political Science from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Previously she worked in several projects coordinated by Dr. Aina Gallego.

Research Assistant

Fernando Hortal is research assistant for the project "Expectations and effects of regional independence: A comparison of Catalonia and Scotland" coordinated by Lesley A. Daniels. He holds a MA in European Studies from the London School of Ecoomics and an Inter-universitarian BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economy from the UPF, UC3 and UAM.

Adrià Rivera

Predoctoral Fellow FPU, MICINN

Adrià Rivera is a PhD candidate in the program Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, under the supervision of Dr. Elisabeth Johansson-Nogués. He obtanied a predoctoral contract from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (FPU). His fields of interest are European external action, in particular regarding the southern neighbourhood, and human rights and democratisation. He holds a Bachelor in Political Science from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a MA in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action from Sciences Po Paris.

Martijn Vlaskamp

Research Fellow Beatriu de Pinós

IBEI researcher Martijn Vlaskamp was awarded a Beatriu de Pinós postdoctoral grant to continue his work on EU conflict prevention and crisis management policies. The Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Funds (AGAUR) provides 60 two-year Beatriu de Pinós fellowships for the incorporation of postdoctoral research staff into the Catalan science and technology system. Martijn Vlaskamp's project builds on his PhD thesis and subsequent Marie Skłodowska-Curie project in which he explored the EU policies with regard to natural resources that fund armed conflicts and their effectiveness. In his Beatriu de Pinós project, Martijn will look at the different perceptions and ideas of policymakers, experts and the general public concerning different conflict prevention and crisis management policies.
