“What is Going on in the World?” Europe Reset: New Directions for the EU

Monday December 18, 2017, at 18:00
CIDOB, room Jordi Maragall, Elisabets 12,08001 Barcelona
Conference

Richard Youngs (Carniege Europe)

CIDOB will host the presentation of the new book by Richard Youngs, in which he proposes an alternative vision of European cooperation and shows how the EU must reinvent itself if it is to survive. He argues that citizens should play a greater role in European decision-making, that there should be radically more flexibility in the process of integration and that Europe needs to take a new, more coherent, approach to questions of defense and security. In proposing this model for a “reset” version of Europe, Youngs reinvigorates the debate around the future of Europe and puts forward a new agenda for the future of the EU.

This book launch will include a presentation by the author, Richard Youngs, Senior Fellow at Carnegie Europe and Professor of International Relations at the University of Warwick. His remarks will be introduced by Esther Barbé, Senior Research Fellow at IBEI and Professor of International Relations at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and will be followed by a debate with Oriol Costa, Research Associate at IBEI and Tenured Assistant Professor at UAB and Pol Morillas, Research Fellow in European Affairs at CIDOB.
