Vacancy: Research Assistant (VISIONS project) - CLOSED
The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for a Research Assistant to work on the research project “Visions and practices of geopolitics in the European Union and its neighborhood (VISIONS)” funded under Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico del Sistema de I+D, Proyectos de I+D de Generación de Conocimiento, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. This project is designed to investigate the current rapidly changing geopolitical landscape of the EU and its near neighborhood and analyze its consequences both on elite and popular levels.
We are seeking candidates at the post-graduate / pre-doctoral level with a background in international relations or political sociology. Fluency in English, excellent writing skills, and experience in linguistics and discourse analysis are a requirement. The ability to conduct qualitative research and having working knowledge of qualitative research methods are additional assets.
The candidate will contribute to VISIONS by studying the impact of the new geopolitical situation facing the European Union both on citizens within EU as well as citizens of ENP neighboring countries. The specific duties will include researching and writing up case studies on policy evolution in the EU’s southern and eastern neighborhood. The candidate will also be involved in copyediting and background research such as literature reviews and minor administrative tasks.
The VISIONS research project has a built-in training and capacity-building component and is ideal for candidates who seek to acquire further skills and insights into how to conduct and design advanced research projects. Upon successful performance, the candidate will be invited to co-author papers for conference presentations and journal submissions to support his/her future career development. The work commitment is full-time (37,5 hours/week) for 8 months, with the possibility of extension by up to six additional months. The start date is fixed. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system.
