⬇️ Download the pdf announcement

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals invites applications for a project manager position (0.5 FTE), as part of the ERC (European Research Council) funded project “ETHNICGOODS: States, Nationalism, and the Relationship Between Ethnic Diversity and Public Goods Provision”, for five years and led by Dr. Matthias vom Hau.

The project revisits and challenges the notion that ethnic diversity is a problem for the effective provision of public goods. Spearheading an emerging research agenda on the historical construction of diversity, ETHNICGOODS instead explores the role of long-run patterns of nation-building and state institutional development in shaping contemporary levels of ethnic diversity and public goods provision.

The successful candidate will be working on managing the day-to-day operational aspects of the project; keeping track of the project’s budget and financial reporting; ensuring communication with the ERC and IBEI to guarantee the achievement of project objectives; organizing project meetings, training activities and scientific conferences; coordinating of project dissemination and communication activities; and liaising with other research initiatives.

Applicants preferably hold a PhD in political science, sociology, or in a closely related field (even though several years of relevant work experience in scientific project management can compensate), and must be fluent in English and Spanish. Candidates with experience in webpage creation and strong IT skills are preferred. Excellent personal skills and an ability to contribute to collaborative research projects are also essential for this position.

The appointment is half-time and will be expected to last until the end of the project, starting in October 2020. The salary corresponds to similar administrative positions at IBEI.

Applications must be submitted by 25 August 2020 (10.00 am Barcelona time)

Applications should include:

  • Cover letter (in English)
  • Current CV (in English)

The application should be saved as one PDF document and sent to: csanchez@ibei.org (Carlos Sanchez. Research coordinator at IBEI).
