The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for paid internship positions to begin as soon as possible. Each internship requires 120 hours, can be arranged full-time or part-time and can be done remotely. The successful candidates will contribute to the research project ENGAGE (Envisioning a New Governance Architecture for a Global Europe), funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. ENGAGE comprises 13 universities and research institutes across Europe and is led by ESADE. IBEI leads a work package on the challenges of acceptability of EU external action.
The interns will contribute to a comparative study which investigates perceptions of EU external action in national parliaments of 14 EU member states and the European Parliament. They will help with the collection and analysis of parliamentary records in an effort to identify the prospects for enhanced cooperation in all areas of EU external action. This includes the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, international trade, development, humanitarian action, as well as policy issues that have become increasingly international in application, either due to their transnational character or their potential for international cooperation (e.g. climate change, competition and health).
Applicants should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, European Studies or other related areas and have an interest in EU foreign policy, and ideally be studying or have completed a master’s degree in these fields. Given that the research focuses on national parliaments in EU member states, we are looking for candidates who can read one of the following languages: Italian, French, Polish, Finnish, Estonian, Slovakian, Hungarian, Greek and Bulgarian. In addition, fluency in English is essential, both orally and written. Excellent analytical skills and an ability to contribute to collaborative research projects are also required for this position.
The successful candidates do not need to be based in Barcelona. Salary is commensurate with similar internship positions at IBEI. The intended start date is 1 November 2021
Applications must be submitted by 18 October 2021
Applications should include:
- A motivation letter (1 page).
- Current CV including the names of two referees.
The application should be saved as one PDF document and sent to: csanchez@ibei.org (Carlos Sanchez. Research coordinator at IBEI).
