The Geopolitics of Security
Esther Barbé (UAB-IBEI), Adam Holesch (IBEI), Ilona Kałdońska (Consul General of the Republic of Poland), Angela Kane (Nuclear Threat Initiative). Moderator: Martijn Vlaskamp (IBEI)
IS THE WORLD ON THE BRINK OF A CATASTROPHE?
The Russian invasion of Ukraine or China's increasingly explicit threats to Taiwan... The world seems to have entered an increasingly tense and insecure phase, marked by a growing rivalry between powers. The EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, controversially described Europe as a garden of prosperity and stability, surrounded by a jungle without law and order.
The speakers will analyse the causes of the transition towards a less stable international order, as well as the implications for European security.
