ABSTRACT

We live in a post American world. President Obama is also the first post-Atlantciist President. Europe is in danger of slipping back into a historical backwater as Asia captured centre stage iin the American imagination. And the links between the US and Europe are not as resilient as they once were. Is it time to ring the curtain down on the 'west' - the political community that has done so much to shape international affairs, mostly for the good since 1941 when it was first constituted in the Atlantic Charter?  Or is it possible to reboot it for the C21st
