Call for Papers: Early-career Scholars’ Workshop – EU-UN Relations (September 2017)
The Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) will host a workshop on 13 September 2017 for pre- and post-doctoral students working in the field of European Union relations with the United Nations System. The workshop is organized in the framework of the Jean Monnet Network EUN-NET. The Network comprises eight leading European and US institutions working in the field of European Union foreign policy and focuses on the study of EU-UN interactions. The workshop will offer a chance for participants to present their work and receive feedback from members of the Network.
The theme of the workshop is The European Union as a Regional Actor in the United Nations System, providing an opportunity for dialogue between three established sub-fields of IR; European Union external action/foreign policy, international organisation and comparative regional studies. We welcome submissions in all areas of EU-UN relations, including those addressing EU effectiveness in the context of the relative decline of the West, US disengagement from the UN system, as well as uncertainly caused by Brexit and an increasing politicisation of other regional blocs.
Interested participants should send an up-to-date CV and an abstract of up to 500 words detailing their paper proposal to firstname.lastname@example.org by 10 June 2017 (Please include ‘EUN-NET’ in the subject). Papers will be selected by a committee of EUN-NET members, and successful applicants will be notified shortly after the deadline.
The workshop will take place on Wednesday 13 September 2017, and therefore partially overlaps with the 2017 EISA annual conference, which is also being hosted in Barcelona by IBEI and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Please note, anyone wishing to also attend EISA must register in advance at www.paneuropeanconference.org
EUN-NET is comprised of Adelphi University, Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg, Athens University of Economics and Business, Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals, KU Leuven, Leiden University, the London School of Economics, and UC Louvain.
