During the course of the academic year 2019/20 IBEI hosts a series of lectures by practitioners in the field of international relations and development.

The practitioner lecture series is intended to give IBEI students and attendees an opportunity to engage with international professionals about their personal work experience, the organizations they represent, and to learn about possible career trajectories in international governmental and non-governmental organizations. Each lecture will allow ample room for questions and inputs from the audience. All IBEI community is welcome.

Karan Sehgal has a Master’s Degree in Environment and Sustainable Development from the Institute of Social Studies in Den Haag and technical qualifications (BSc) in Economics and Management Sciences from the University of Southampton, UK. Since 2010, he focused his work and gained hands-on experience with renewable energy technologies such as solar-powered drip irrigation systems in Benin and portable biogas systems in Kenya. Focusing on the link between rural energy and rural poverty, for the past 8 years his role at IFAD has been to scout potential renewable energy technologies for piloting (testing and validating) and ultimately bringing to scale within IFAD funded projects. His areas of expertise include zero-waste farming systems (i.e. integrated biogas systems), energy conservation and efficiency at farm level (conservation agriculture), multi-functional platforms, and waste-management technologies.
