IBEI Study Trip to Geneve

On the 4th and 5th of May, some IBEI Students travelled to Geneva as part of the 2017 edition of the IBEI Study Trip.

This was a great opportunity for them to find out more about international organizations and their day-to-day work, and also to meet with diplomats and practitioners that work at diplomatic missions.

The first day they visited the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Mr. Abraham Doblado, Rex Programme Manager, Donor Relations Unit, presented the ICRC and its principled humanitarian action. Mr. Ilya Ivanov, Trainee, Policy Cell, introduced the students to international humanitarian law.

On the afternoon, there was a conference on the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, by Mr. Victorio Redondo Baldrich, Ambassador Deputy Permanent Representative.

Right afterwards at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Dr. Cecilia Cannon, Programme for the Study of International Governance, gave a conference on International Organizations Reform & Effectiveness.

The 5ht of May, the students assisted to a guided tour of the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva. There, they could get to know more about the activities and mandate of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and also about the activities of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

At the end of the day, they could go to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and were informed about their activities.
