This course provides institutional and political economy knowledge on the basics of the global trade and economic governance, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), regional trade agreements (FTAs etc.), international financial institutions, and the G20, and critical topics of the intersection of trade and investment, finance, taxation, development, and trade and climate change. We will discuss main principles and rules, institutions, tectonic shifts of the world trading system as well as current issues.

All students are encouraged to actively participate in class debates and group work. The course is aimed at interested students from different backgrounds and will be designed with this diversity in mind.

The course comprises 10 weeks of lectures and 2 weeks of student groups’ presentations and discussion, as well as mid-term and final exams.

Final grades will be determined on the basis of the following criteria:

• Class participation: 20% (10% for class attendance & 10% for participation in class discussions)
• Group work (group presentations and discussion): 30%
• Mid-term exam: 25% 
• Final exam: 25%
