IBEI hosts the workshop on trade politicisation organized under the aegis of the EU-NormCon research project

The workshop on trade politicisation organized under the aegis of the EU-NormCon research project took place on July 2, 2018. The meeting gathered researchers from different Universities interested in the politicisation of trade from a European Union perspective. The topic was addressed from different perspectives such as the role of social movement organizations in trade politicisation, the presence of trade politicisation in different levels of government, the different stages and degrees of politicisation, and its importance in Brexit and in the EU efforts to manage globalization.

The workshop took place in Barcelona, in the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). Chaired by Patricia Garcia-Duran (University of Barcelona), it was attended by Dirk De Bièvre (University of Antwerp), Oriol Costa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Leif Johan Eliasson (East Stroudsburg University), Maria Garcia (University of Bath), Elitsa Garnizova (London School of Economics), Niels Gheyle (Centre for EU Studies), Anna Herranz-Surrallés (Maastricht University), Aukje van Loon (Ruhr University Bochum), Arlo Poletti (Trento University), Gabriel Siles-Brügge (University of Warwick), and Michael Strange (Malmö University).

The EU-NormCon research project (Normative contestation in Europe: Implications for the EU in a changing global order) is funded by the National R+D Plan of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competiveness (CSO2016-79205-P).
