IBEI expresses solidarity with Central European University (CEU)

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals is concerned about legislation proposed by the Government of Hungary on March 28th that imposes new, targeted, and onerous regulatory requirements on foreign universities. If adopted, these changes would negatively affect or even lead to the closure of Central European University (CEU) in Budapest.

In these tough times, IBEI has written a letter expressing solidarity with Central European University (CEU) and expressing concern at proposed legislative changes to CEU’s status in Hungary.

Among the graduate programmes that IBEI offers, there is the Mundus Masters Programme in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP). It directly responds to the educational needs created by the rapidly changing global environment and new public policy challenges. Four leading European universities join forces to deliver Mundus MAPP and the Central European University in Budapest (Hungary) specifically coordinates the programme.

Building on this Mundus MAPP's successful track record, IBEI would like to send a message of solidarity, commitment and friendship to make sure that the university keeps its move.

The statement has been signed by Professor Narcís Serra, President of IBEI, and Professor Jacint Jordana, Director of IBEI.

Students of the Erasmus Mundus Master’s Program in Public Policy at IBEI who have spent their first year at CEU organized as well a photo shoot this week, with all IBEI’s community (students, staff and faculty) in order to express and show their support.
