The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for a Research Assistant to work on the research project “Rethinking the fundamentals of regions and interregionalism: The European Union and Latin America through the lens of regional regulatory governance (Reg-EULAC)” funded under the Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico del Sistema de I+D, Proyectos de I+D de Generación de Conocimiento, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. Reg-EULAC investigates the landscape of regulatory cooperation at the interregional level of governance. With a particular focus on the interregional relations between Europe and Latin America, the project aims to explore the drivers and effects of both formal and state-led and informal, soft, and networked regulatory structures and processes across different social policy areas.

We are seeking candidates at the post-graduate/pre-doctoral level with a background in political science, political sociology, international relations, or related disciplines. Fluency in both Spanish and English, excellent writing skills, and experience with qualitative data collection and analysis are essential. Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (NVivo) is an asset.

The specific duties of the candidate will include collecting and analysing original qualitative data, researching, and writing up case studies, and working on various papers and datasets related to the project. The candidate will also be involved in copyediting and background research such as literature reviews, as well as minor administrative tasks.

The project has a built-in-training and capacity-building component and is ideal for candidates who seek to develop skills and insights related to the conduct and design of advanced research projects and to pursue a more advanced degree. Upon successful performance, the candidate will be invited to co-author papers for conference presentations and journal submissions to support his/her future career development.

The work commitment is between 15-20 hours/week for 6 months, with the possibility of extension by up to one year. The start date is flexible but should be no later than 1 March 2021. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system.

Applications must be submitted by 4 February 2021 (10.00am CET).

Applications should include:

  • A letter of interest
  • Current CV that includes contact information of two referees.
  • Official transcripts of relevant academic degrees.

The application should be saved as one PDF document and sent to: csanchez@ibei.org (Carlos Sanchez. Research coordinator at IBEI).

For any questions regarding the position, please contact Andrea C. Bianculli (abianculli@ibei.org).
