Vacancy | Post-Doctoral Position In Legal And Democratic Theory (REPGOV Project) - CLOSED
The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for a post-doctoral position in legal and democratic theory on a project entitled "Representative Government Through Democratic Governance (REPGOV)". The project is funded by a European Research Council (ERC) advanced grant and led by Professor Anthony Bertelli (Pennsylvania State University and IBEI). REPGOV theoretically and empirically examines the intersection between public administration and democracy in a novel and rigorous way.
We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished junior colleague with expertise in European Union law, political theory, and democratic governance. The successful candidate will contribute to research on topics such as the legitimacy and complexity of EU institutions, administrative law, and the role of expertise in policymaking. Applicants should have a strong track record of interdisciplinary research, as well as peer-reviewed publications, and experience with scholarly conference presentations. Fluency in English, Italian, and Spanish is required to support research activities and collaboration across multilingual contexts. Key responsibilities include conducting collaborative research, preparing manuscripts for publication, and communicating the research findings of the REPGOV project to broad academic and professional audiences. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about advancing understanding of legal and political systems in a global context, with a focus on fostering public trust and integrity in governance.
Applicants must hold the PhD in Law or a cognate subject before the start date, although appointment as a pre-doctoral researcher until the PhD is conferred is possible. Post-doctoral researchers are core members of the REPGOV team, working full-time in Barcelona.
The closing date for applications to this search is 10 February 2025. The successful candidate will begin work before the end of February 2025.
