New Strategic Partnership: Casa Amèrica Catalunya and IBEI Sign Agreement to Strengthen EU–LAC cultural, social and policy dialogue

On 29 May 2025, the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and Casa Amèrica Catalunya formalised a significant partnership to strengthen cultural and policy ties between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean (LAC).

Founded in 1911, Casa Amèrica Catalunya is a cultural institution dedicated to fostering connections between LAC and Catalonia. With a belief that culture is a powerful tool for mutual understanding, it hosts exhibitions, seminars, debates, literary and musical events, and film cycles. It serves as a platform for cultural cooperation and acts as a bridge for collaborative initiatives between Catalonia, Europe and LAC.

The signing ceremony, held at IBEI marks the launch of a three-year collaboration focused on enabling transatlantic dialogue, advancing cultural and social exchange, and engaging the public in critical conversations between Europe and LAC.

Under this newly signed agreement, Casa Amèrica Catalunya and IBEI will co-organise a series of roundtables, cultural events and policy dialogues. These activities will be conducted within the framework of two EU-funded projects led by IBEI, in collaboration with European and LAC members and partners:

  • The MSCA Doctoral Network LAC-EU supports the doctoral training of 12 fellows and academic exchanges and research on EU–LAC relations.
  • The Jean Monnet EULAS Network promotes dialogue and mutual understanding between the EU and LAC through different research, training and dissemination activities.

Both initiatives aim to explore the relational dynamics between the EU and LAC regions while engaging different stakeholders on both sides of the Atlantic. To that end, the collaborative initiatives between Casa Amèrica and IBEI will be open to the public, encouraging participation from students, professionals, cultural and media representatives, decision makers and engaged citizens.

This partnership signifies a shared commitment to deepening mutual understanding and cooperation between Europe and LAC. By combining Casa Amèrica Catalunya's cultural expertise with IBEI's academic prowess, the partnership will create a strong platform for examining and debating the state of EU–LAC relations in light of pressing international challenges and amid global transformations.
