IBEI Celebrates 20 Years of academic excellence with a Special Event in Brussels

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, IBEI held a public event in Brussels on 27 May at the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the European Union. The gathering brought together members of the IBEI community, alumni, and key stakeholders in European and international affairs.

The event opened with a welcome and presentation by Jacint Jordana, President of IBEI, and Lluís Riera, President of Amics de l’IBEI, who reflected on the institute’s journey over the past two decades and its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement.

This was followed by a thought-provoking roundtable titled "The Challenges of European Security: Adapting to a Changing World", organised as an opportunity to explore the pressing issues facing European security and the EU’s evolving responses to global threats. Chaired by Laura Chaqués, featuring expert panelists including Esther Barbé, Raül Hernández Sagrera and Ángel Manuel Almendros explored the shifting dynamics of global security, the role of the EU in a multipolar world, and the need for adaptable strategies to address emerging threats.

Another key goal of the event was to lay the foundation for the IBEI Alumni Chapter in Brussels, aimed at fostering a strong and active network of professional and personal connections among alumni based in a key hub for international relations and the EU.
