FAQ around COVID-19 situation

We would like to reassure you that the IBEI Admissions team is still available while working remotely. We are happy to answer all your queries. Please do not hesitate to contact us by email, phone or skype for any question you may have regarding the admissions process or your future move to Barcelona.

Here you will find some of the answers to the most frequent questions derived from the COVID-19 situation:

Until when can I apply for one of the master’s programmes?

IBEI has extended the application deadline until 20 July 2020.

We strongly encourage applicants from outside the EU to apply well in advance to allow for sufficient time to process their Spanish student visa.

Will there be any changes to the admissions process?

Although the admissions team is currently working remotely, we are continuing to process and evaluate your applications.

I have difficulties submitting my language exam on time as my test center is closed at the moment. Can I get an extension to submit the exam score?

Given that many test centers are postponing exam dates, the deadline to submit your English (IELTS or Cambridge) and/or Spanish (DELE or SIELE) test scores has been extended to 1 September 2020. Please note that TOEFL offers the possibility to take the TOEFL iBT test at home at the moment.

My university is closed due to the coronavirus outbreak and I cannot get the required official documents at the moment. Can I submit these documents later on?

We are aware that is may be more difficult for you to get your complete transcripts or diplomas at the moment as universities all over the world may be closed while staff works remotely from home. You can submit unofficial copies of your academic documents for the time being. Once you are admitted, we will ask you to provide the official academic documents before the start of the master’s in September.

I have been admitted to IBEI and I am worried that I will not graduate as planned as my undergraduate studies are delayed by the COVID-19 situation in my country.

If you have not received your diploma by the time you enroll at IBEI in late September 2020, you will need to submit official certificate from your universities stating that you have successfully completed your studies. This document should also include the expected issuing date of your diploma.

I am an international student who needs to apply for a visa. What would you recommend?

Due to the effects of COVID-19, Spanish embassies and consulates may take longer than normal to process visa applications. Please check the website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the website of the Spanish embassy or consulate closest to your place of residence for the most updated informatio.

Will the academic year start as scheduled?

All our master's programmes are scheduled to begin in late September as planned. IBEI will monitor the situation and follow the advice from the Spanish Government as the health and safety of students and staff is of utmost importance to the Institute. We will update you immediately if the situation changes.

I will arrive late due to COVID-19 related problems, such as a delay in issuing my visa or travel restrictions. What should I do?

If you were to arrive late due to any of the problems mentioned above, you could still join the master’s programme until November. In case of a greater delay, IBEI would exceptionally allow you to start the programme in February 2021 and/or extend the programme to three semesters.

I have received an offer, but I would like to defer my place because of the current situation. Will this be possible?

IBEI also offers students the possibility to defer their entry to September 2021. Please contact us and we will inform you about the process.

If I am unable to start my studies because of the pandemic, will my deposit be refunded?

If you are unable to start your studies in Barcelona as a direct result of unforeseen COVID-19 related circumstances (closure of consulates or borders, travel restrictions, etc.), your deposit payment will be fully refunded.
