Descripció

This course will explore the role of civilians in war and genocide from international, sociological and legal perspectives. Starting with a discussion of the perspectives themselves, the course will examine the changing forms and contexts of anti-civilian violence in the modern development of armed conflict, together with theoretical and legal responses. The course will thus aim to introduce students to major concepts, explanations and legal responses in the development of war and genocide from the twentieth century to date, with some sessions focussing on recent case studies.
