Round Table | Ukraine’s war and the prospects for European & international security
Oriol Costa (UAB-IBEI), Mary Kaldor (LSE-IBEI), Pol Morillas (CIDOB). Moderator: Carme Colomina (CIDOB)
A little more than a year into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and a year after the Bucha massacre, we take stock of the implications of the war for the international and regional order, as well as the European security architecture, and explore possible avenues ahead for the key actors in the region.
CIDOB and IBEI jointly organize this round table and bring together views from the fields of human security, EU integration, and EU foreign policy.
Oriol Costa is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he currently acts as Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs; and Senior Associate Researcher at IBEI. His research looks at the interaction between the European Union and international institutions, with a special interest on how the latter shape the ways in which the EU acts in the international arena.
Mary Kaldor is Professor Emeritus of Global Governance and Director of the Conflict Research Programme at The London School of Economics and Political Science, and Affiliated Faculty member at IBEI. She has pioneered the concepts of new wars and global civil society. Her elaboration of the real-world implementation of human security has directly influenced European and national governments.
Pol Morillas is Director of CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs). He is a political scientist, holds a PhD in Politics, Policies and International Relations from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a Master's (with distinction) in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He is also a member of the Board of Cercle d’Economia and of IBEI's Observatori de Política Exterior Europea (European Foreign Policy Observatory).
Moderator: Carme Colomina is a Senior Research Fellow on European Union, disinformation and global politics at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs), Editor and member of the Editorial Board. She is also visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, where she teaches a course on Communications Management in the European Union, and at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
