ICPP5 is coming to Barcelona in 2021! The Call for Panels is open

The 5th International Conference on Public Policy (ICPP5) is coming to Barcelona in 2021! Jointly organized by the International Public Policy Association (IPPA) and IBEI, the Conference will take place at the Raval Building of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), from July 6th to July 8th, 2021 with a pre-conference at IBEI’s headquarters on July 5th.

The Universitat de Barcelona (UB), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) also collaborate in the organization of this edition. IPPA and IBEI expect eminent researchers to present their work during plenary sessions and multi sessions. In the evening, social events will be organized, such as a Welcome Drink Reception or a Gala Dinner.

Following the success of the previous editions of the Biennial International Conference on Public Policy (ICPP) (Grenoble 2013, Milan 2015, Singapore 2017, Montreal 2019 with more than 1300 attendees), the ICPP5 will become the most important international conference for Policy Research.

⚠️ IMPORTANT UPDATE: We have recently learned the Mobile World Congress – the largest exhibition for the mobile industry, organized every year in Barcelona in March – has decided to postpone their event to June 28 – July 1, 2021, fully coinciding with the ICPP5. The Mobile Congress has an average turnout of 110 000 participants, which has a considerable impact on hotel and travel costs, as well as on circulation within Barcelona. After much consideration and following the advice of the Tourist Office of Barcelona, IPPA and the IBEI have decided to change the dates of ICPP5 to Tuesday, July 6 to Thursday 8, 2021, and the Preconference date to July 5. We understand some of you might have already planned according to the original dates, but we assure you that we have your best interest at heart.

With this in mind, we also decided to extend the Call for panels until Friday, October 30, 2020. We invite all Scholars, if you have not already, to submit a panel before this new deadline.

We also want to assure you that all the IPPA team is contemplating different scenarios to adapt to the evolution of the pandemic. We have put in place flexible measures to facilitate your attendance, including the refund of your registration or the shift to virtual participation in case of a health issue, quarantine measures imposed by local authorities, travel bans, etc.

The Call for Panels for the ICPP5 is currently open until October 30, 2020. IPPA and IBEI invite all scholars to submit a panel proposal to participate in ICPP5.

The proposal should include:

  • a description of its general objective, the definition of its research question, and a justification of its scientific relevance.
  • a "call for papers" detailing the type of papers expected for the panels.

Every panel will be reviewed by the International Scientific Committee of ICPP on the basis of the panel description and research question.

If selected, the accepted panels will be published on IPPA website along with their presentations and research question, and the call for papers description. The panel chairs will directly manage the selection of the papers received during the call for papers and will be asked to accept from 4 to 15 papers according to their quality and relevance to the panel.

The panels can address any theoretical, methodological, or empirical research question and cover a large range of topics provided they are related to Public Policy. During the Conference, the panels will be divided into 1 to 3 sessions of 2h each and organized around paper presentations. To allow researchers to meet other peers and to discover new perspectives surrounding the same research questions, ICPP only accepts open panel proposals. More information
