| On 18 January 2008 the graduation ceremony took place of the Master’s degree in International Relations that IBEI has been offering since 2004. IBEI, a private foundation recognized by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia as an inter-university research institute, aims to be an institution of reference with an international reputation through the teaching of a Master’s Degree and fostering research in international relations.
The event, which was presided over by Dr. Narcís Serra, President of the Institute, and introduced by Fred Halliday, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Visiting Professor at IBEI, was graced with the participation of the 2003 Nobel Laureate Dr Shirin Ebadi.
The vice-rectors from the universities that issue the Master’s Certificate, Mrs. María Morrás (Ph.D., Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Mrs Mercè Unzeta (Ph.D., Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Mr Jordi Matas (Ph.D, Universitat de Barcelona) together with Professor Jacint Jordana, Director of IBEI and its Master’s Programme, awarded the certificates to all IBEI graduates.
In 2004, the Master’s Programme comprised 27 students. In 2005 the Programme had 36 students and in 2006 the number increased to 47. IBEI, which currently has 57 enrolled students, will offer the Master’s degree part-time from Autumn 2008.
