Admission is mainly based on academic merits but the Admissions Committee will also take into account further aspects such as the curriculum vitae and motivation of the candidate. The admission process is selective, targeting excellent students from diverse academic, geographical, cultural and linguistic background.

Successful applicants should hold an undergraduate degree (BA; Licienciatura etc.) or the equivalent from an accredited college or university with an excellent academic record. Students can apply in advance of finishing their degree on the condition that they will be able to provide the required undergraduate degree before the commencement of the Master programme in September 2008.

LANGUAGES
Applicants are expected to be proficient in both English and Spanish since lectures are delivered in either of these languages. Admitted students will however be able to choose in which of the two languages they wish to hand in written work.
ENGLISH
Students will have to proof a high level of proficiency in English. Applicants not exempt from this requirement due to one of the reasons indicated below will have to provide a copy of an English language certificate such as: TOEFL (at least 213 computer-based, 550 paper-based), IELTS (6.0 or higher), Cambridge First Certificate.
Students will be exempt from this requirement in the following cases:
- They are native speakers of English
- They have obtained a university degree in a country where English is an official language
- They have undertaken at least one year of higher education study in an English speaking country (such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, the United States) or have completed their university degree in English in any EU country, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey.
SPANISH
As for Spanish, students will have to demonstrate that they have obtained at least the intermediate DELE diploma (http://diplomas.cervantes.es). Candidates who have not
Students will be exempt from this requirement in the following cases:
- They are native speakers of Spanish
- They have undertaken at least one year of higher education study in a Spanish-speaking country
- They have completed a university degree in the field of Hispanic studies
In exceptional cases, IBEI may invite those candidates who cannot proof the required level of competence in English or Spanish for a telephone interview. |
