The teaching model is based on class attendance, encouraging students' participation, and individual guidance in order to personalize the relationship with teachers. Students must complete an individual research project authorized by their teachers.

Each teaching course is structured as follows:

  • Master lectures by the professor of the subject of study, where the main program topics are presented and discussed.
  • Practical sessions where participation is encouraged in order to develop skills in research, presentation and argumentation, as well as teamwork.

Compulsory subjects are three hours per week, one of them devoted to discuss practical cases in small groups (10 - 15 students). Optional subjects are two hours per week and they combine master classes, practical sessions and seminars. Each subject is given by a teacher responsible for the coordination of the teaching staff that gives the classes. The teacher establishes the methods of assessment and coordinates all the activities linked to the subject, including individual guidance.

Following the ECTS criteria, 6 credit subjects (compulsory) imply 150 hours of study for the students, covering individual project, group activities, seminars and classes, whereas 4 credit subjects (optional) imply 100 hours of study combining practical and regular classes. There will be 28 hours of classes and seminars for each subject; furthermore, compulsory subjects include 14 hours of additional practical sessions throughout the semester. Semesters are divided into 14 weeks devoted to teaching, followed by approximately 4 weeks devoted to taking exams and finishing research projects.

The evaluation of students will be based on ongoing assessment and will combine the systematic writing of short essays about issues in relation to the subjects given and seminars attended; satisfactory participation in debates and practical sessions; and passing the exams.

Additionally, thanks to a collaboration programme with the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Master degree will periodically offer a lecture by a Spanish ambassador in a foreign country, followed by a debate with the students

The IBEI Foundation also organizes weekly Discussion Seminars, where guest researchers and prestigious professionals with years of experience in the field contribute with their points of view, opinions and experiences to stimulate the students' capacity to analyze and think.
