The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals offers two postdoctoral fellowships. The recipients of these fellowships will carry out their own research in any of the fields of international political economy, international security, international relations, foreign policy and comparative public policy. The minimum duration of a fellowship is 12 months, renewable for up to a maximum period of two years. The renewal of the fellowship is dependent upon a positive assessment of the fellow’s performance by IBEI’s Scientific Council. Holding an IBEI fellowship is incompatible with the acceptance of any similar award or any salaried remuneration.
The relationship between IBEI and each fellow will be a contractual one, governed by Spanish labor law with all its associated benefits.
The postdoctoral fellowships aim to facilitate the development of the research programmes proposed by fellows within the framework of topics of interest to IBEI. Applicants for a fellowship must hold a doctoral degree in political science, international relations or an equivalent area, obtained during the three years preceding their incorporation at IBEI. Candidates of any nationality are eligible for IBEI postdoctoral fellowships. Candidates from a country outside the European Union must comply with the Spanish government’s visa requirements. Knowledge of Spanish is not a requirement.
For the 2008 call for candidates, the salary is 28,000 euros per year, gross, for the period from 1 October 2008 to 30 September 2009. IBEI will pay the salary in either monthly or quarterly instalments, as agreed with the recipient. Postdoctoral fellows must comply with Spanish taxation law. Postdoctoral fellows are covered by Spanish Social Security arrangements.
Applications should be submitted between March and early May 2008. Interested candidates should submit the following documentation: a letter of introduction; curriculum vitae/résumé; two sample pieces of research already undertaken (such as presentations, articles, books or book chapters), one of which must be a chapter from the candidate’s doctoral dissertation; a proposed research project and plan of work (no longer than six pages) to be carried out during the course of the fellowship. The proposal should include a title, background, methodology and objectives; letters of recommendation from two referees; academic transcript of the Ph.D. Selected candidates must hand in these certificates immediately on taking up their positions.
