Junior (Assistant) Professor 2009 Call for Applications
 

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions in Political Science, with a special interest in the area of International Relations and at the Assistant Professor level. The positions should begin no later than 1 October 2009. Five-year contracts will be offered. Applications must be submitted by 24 November 2008.

Welcome to the 2008 Postdoctoral Fellows
 
Kissack, Konstantinidis and Nettelfield
Throughout October, three new postdoctoral fellows have joined the IBEI community. They have obtained their positions after a rigorous and competitive selection process. The postdoctoral fellows are Robert Kissack, PhD in International Relations (London School of Economics and Political Science, 2006); Nikitas Konstantinidis, PhD in Political Economy (Princeton University, 2008); and Lara Nettelfield, PhD in Political Science (Columbia University, 2006).
 
 
Award for IBEI postdoctoral fellow (EUI - Florence)
 
Yannis Karagiannis, award for IBEI postdoctoral fellow
The IBEI postdoctoral research fellow Yannis Karagiannis has been awarded the bi-annual European University Institute (EUI) Alumni Prize for Best Interdisciplinary Thesis. Yannis' thesis, entitled “Preference Heterogeneity and Equilibrium Institutions: The Case of European Competition Policy”, competed with numerous other candidates from all departments of the EUI, reaching the Final Four after the Political Science Faculty nominated his piece of work Best Political Science Inter-Disciplinary Thesis for 2006-2008. Yannis has been an IBEI postdoctoral fellow since October 2007.

A Welcome day for students
 
Welcome Day of the IBEI’s Master in International Relations The Welcome Day of the IBEI’s Master in International Relations (5th edition) took place last September 29. Different activities were organised to welcome the 80 new students from 27 different countries that will complete the Master’s degree throughout this academic year in a full or part-time basis.
 
 
Visions Internacionals IBEI - IBEI International Views
 
Last October 1st, the IBEI presented the cycle of conferences “Visions Internacionals IBEI - IBEI International Views” with the participation of Mr. Miles Jordana, Deputy Secretary of National Security and Criminal Justice from the Government of Australia’s Office of the Attorney General. This new cycle aims to approach the students of the IBEI’s Master in International Relations, as well as those who may be interested in the topic, to the experiences and daily work of well-known professionals of the international relations field.

Jacint Jordana, Director of IBEI, presented the cycle and introduced the speaker to the audience. In his speech, Mr. Miles reflected on the complexities, rewards and challenges linked to his work. In addition, he analyzed the recent evolution of Australia’s security policy and discussed the main current and future challenges.
