IBEI is awarded two research projects by the European Science Foundation (ESF)
 
The IBEI has been awarded two research projects by the European Science Foundation within the framework of the European Collaborative Research Projects (ECPR). Juan Díez Medrano, Coordinator of the research program “Networks and Institutions in a Global Economy”, and Robert Kissack, postdoctoral researcher at IBEI, are the academics involved in these projects. Prof. Medrano leads the project “Toward a European Society: Single Market, Binational Marriages, and Social Group Formation in Europe” together with the Universität Zürich, University of Mannheim - GESIS Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the University of Groningen. Dr Robert Kissack participates in the EU-PERFORM: Assessing the performance of the European Union in international institutions, along with researchers from the University of Aarhus, (Denmark) and NUPI (Norwegian Institute of International Affairs).

Martin Shaw, new Visiting Professor at IBEI
 
Professor Shaw, a leading researcher in global politics, war and genocide, will be at the Institut until next June. Prof. Shaw joins IBEI under the Ministry of Education’s Subprogramme of Mobility Stays of Teachers and Researchers in Spanish Centres, researching the topic “The International Relations of Genocide: Genocidal Violence in Contemporary Conflict”.

The selection process for Junior Professor positions begins
 
Mid-December 2009 was the deadline for applications for Junior Professor positions. The announcement was published on the IBEI’s website and was distributed on the electronic bulletin boards of major international associations of Political Science, Social Sciences and International Studies. IBEI has received one hundred and eighty-nine applications from twenty different countries, from people holding doctoral degrees from prestigious universities. During the month of March, the selection committee will decide the final candidates.
POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
5th Barcelona Summer School in International Politics
 

The fifth IBEI Barcelona Summer School in International Politics will take place from 28 June to 9 July 2010.  It will be taught by authorities such as Prof. Carles Boix (Princeton University-IBEI), Juan Díez Medrano (IBEI), Helen Milner (Princeton University) Lars-Erik Cederman (ETH Zürich) and Daniel Posner (University of California, Los Angeles). The Barcelona Summer School in International Politics offers five courses (10 hours each) on significant topics in international relations and international politics.

The admissions process for IBEI’s Master’s in International Relations is open
 
Applications for admission to both the full-time and the part-time programme for the upcoming academic year are already being accepted. Students who wish to apply for the programme should submit their CV, academic transcript, copy of university degree or diploma, proof of proficiency in English and Spanish, a motivation letter and two reference letters.

IBEI participates in the 1st Postgraduate Forum
 
IBEI participated in the first Postgraduate Forum held in Madrid in late February. The main objective of this initiative is to set up a scenario adapted to the new European Education Area and to know what is being done in education in universities in the Spanish autonomous communities and in other countries.
