Scholarships

There are many sources of financial aid for students wishing to study for a postgraduate degree. IBEI recommends that applicants look into all the options for financial support available before sending their application. Candidates should bear in mind that most of the institutions offering financial assistance to students have very tight deadlines, and they often close applications months before the formal beginning of the academic year 2017-2018.  

The information about scholarships, grants and loans offered below is not complete and is subject to change. 

IBEI offers a limited number of merit-based partial tuition fee waivers for students admitted to any of the master’s programmes. The application form for the master's programmes includes the option to apply for this grant.

Deadline: 1st of July 2017

Enagas, the main carrier of natural gas in Spain, and IBEI, in order to educate future professionals in the field of international affairs and security studies, offer partial tuition fee waivers for the Master’s in International Relations, the Master’s in International Security or the Master's in International Development. The application form for the master's programmes includes the option to apply for this grant. The application deadline for this grant will be announced soon.

Indra Sistemas, the global consulting, technology, innovation and talent company, and IBEI offer two full tuition fee grants for the Master’s in International Security in order to educate future professionals in the field of security studies. The application form for the master's programmes includes the option to apply for this grant. The application deadline for this grant will be announced soon.

The Fundació Catalunya - La Pedrera and IBEI offer two scholarships covering the full tuition fees of the Master’s in International Relations. Only Spanish students with outstanding academic achievements can apply for this scholarship. The application form for the master's programmes includes the option to apply for this grant.

The Fundación Carolina, an institution that promotes cultural relations and cooperation between Spain and the Iberoamerican Community of Nations in the fields of education and science, awards together with IBEI two scholarships for the Master's in International Relations and another one for the Master's in International Security. These scholarships are targeted at students from one of the Iberoamerican Community of Nations member states. Students have to apply through the Fundación Carolina.

The Mundus Master’s Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) is a 2-year-long international Masters course. Four leading European universities joined forces to deliver Mundus MAPP: Central European University in Budapest (Hungary), Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (Spain), the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in the Hague (The Netherlands), and the University of York (UK).The Mundus MAPP programme provides scholarships to outstanding students to attend Mundus MAPP.

MAEC / AECID offer institutional scholarships for the Master’s in International Development to officials and staff integrated into public systems of priority countries for Spanish Cooperation. Master's Degree of up to 60 ECTS credits inscribed in the Register of Universities, Centers and Titles (RUCT) of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain (presential or semi-presential) in thematic areas aligned with the priorities of the IV Master Plan of Spanish Cooperation 2013-2016 (Culture for Development, etc.)".

The Aga Kahn Foundation provides a number of scholarships for postgraduate studies every year to outstanding students from one of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgystan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada.

The Swedish Board for Study Support (CSN) approves and sends out Swedish financial aid for studies, which includes both grants and loans to students of Sweden.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) aims to encourage international relationships among higher education centres. The DAAD offers a wide range of programmes and scholarships to encourage and increase academic exchange between Germany and the rest of the world.

The Ford Foundation's International Fellowships Program (IFP) is targeted at those who have been excluded from opportunities to access postgraduate studies, chosen based on their academic potential, leadership, and social and community commitment to study Master's or PhD degrees in their country or abroad. The IFP is aimed at citizens resident in any of the countries where the programme is run: Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, the Philippines, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam.

The Ayacuch Foundation grants scholarships to Venezuelan students or professionals to carry out postgraduate courses in foreign countries.

Norwegian students can apply for a Lanekassen grant to study a Master’s degree at IBEI. There are three elements: The first one is a grant to help with living expenses. The second one helps with tuition fees. The third element is the funding of the travel expenses. The amount awarded is dependent on things like the Master’s chosen by the student or the family income.

The British Leverhulme Trust offers grants for research and education. The Trust makes approximately 20 awards for postgraduate students (for a period of between 12 and 24 months) studying at an educational institution abroad, other than in the United Kingdom or the United States.

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit organisation that promotes international understanding through its humanitarian service programmes and educational and cultural exchange work. The Goodwill Scholarships are the Rotary Foundation's oldest and most widespread programme. Scholarships are granted to those wishing to study for a postgraduate degree. During their stay abroad, students take on the role of goodwill ambassadors in the host country.

The Tan Kah Kee Foundation scholarships are open to citizens and permanent residents of Singapore who wish to study for full-time postgraduate degrees in any field. Applicants are assessed according to academic merit, exceptional personal character and bilingual ability. The scholarship is for 10,000 Singapore Dollars and is granted annually.

Veterans of the US Armed Forces can choose from a range of programmes and services provided by the federal Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The “GI Bill” (the term used for the different educational programmes run by the Department of Veterans Affairs) offers benefits to veterans and soldiers who wish to study university degrees. Both the Master's in International Relations and the Master's in International Security are approved, eligible programmes.
