Objective

In recent years cities have been taking a leading role in immigration policies in many European countries. On the one hand, it has been due to its political, social and economic dynamism, but also on the other, to shape a coherent response to the integration dynamics at all levels of the newcomers and the needs of all kinds that they generate. Innovation and experimentation in the public policies of immigration driven by the cities have been very outstanding, and they have also promoted a process of diffusion and learning that has spread throughout Europe and in a global way. All of this experience has been instrumental in addressing and absorbing recent arrivals of refugees into Europe to effectively deploy successful reception and integration policies. The course will address these issues through the presentation and discussion of recent experiences of various European cities, as well as the exposure and assessment of concrete elements of local immigration policies and their instruments of action.
